March. And Spring Weather!

Yes it is March and we are busy. The day was spent cleaning and preparing for the year. The Wife spent the day out front cleaning out the front flower beds (raking out the old mulch and tearing out the weed- ridden landscape fabric) and I did time in the garden pulling weeds, composting the garden beds and tidying everything up. This was after our trip to the gym. Kinda not sure why we went now. It is 6:19 pm and I'm wondering how much longer we are going to be able to stay awake. Anyway here's a few pics from the day.

Before shot.

 After shot.

And look what I found while cleaning. A few cabbages and a few turnips.

We also picked up some flowers today.

And the rest of the plants are starting their journey.

As I said earlier we are hitting the gym regularly now. It a process, that's what we keep saying to ourselves. Other than that things are moving along.
Hope to blog more. See you next time.

Cleaned Up

Got everything pulled out, cleaned up, tilled, fertilized, and pretty much ready for winter.

Midway through the process. Notice the bed with all the weeds? Sad to look at I know.

Looking much better now!

Did the frost get my stuff? The peppers sure felt it.

But in pulling out the plants today I found a gem hidden at the base of one of the plants.

The Smurfs are moving back in. Seems like I get a few of these every year.

And as it always happens, I always end up tearing up everything in my path. I tore up one of my water lines going into a bed, ripped the back plate off of the tiller, and broke the garage door opener panel.

And to top that off I was pulled over yesterday by a town police officer. I got my truck inspected by I haven't had the chance to get my plate sticker. That's what he stopped me for. So after a few minutes he hands me my license back and tells me to have a good day. Thought I got away with it but the citation came in the mail today. $215.00!!!! Pisses me off.

Off to get a few more things done. And when I say 'a few more things', I mean planning next year's spring crop. I have plenty of ideas. What's yours?

I leave you with The Wife's front decoration.

Spring, Spring, Where Art Thou?

We go from cold, rainy weather to highs in the mid 80s. Spring just shot right on by for some reason. Looking at the long range forecast it might cool down some for next weekend but still, let's try to extend this out some. Please.

Did some work in the garden today and hopefully got everything off to a good start. Planted some yellow squash and eggplant. With that there are the peas (need fencing for them to climb on soon), one row of beans (next row gets planted next weekend) tomatoes (staked a few up and lost a few with the really heavy rains lately), cukes (made their appearance) the 5,000 onions, and the potatoes (finally made their appearance too.) Feels like I'm missing something though. Hmmmmm. Need to think on this.

Green Beans.

Thought about planting corn this year just to see if I can get it to grow. I don't know if it will be worth the effort though. I also got a hose spigot hooked up to the station at the garden, installed the timer, and ran some water out of the lines. I have one line that doesn't have anything running out of it so that's on the list for next weekend too.

Still haven't figured out what I'm missing from my plantings. Hopefully by this weekend. Also got to measure out the property so I can try to get a building permit for the outbuilding. That and a dna sample is required. Pain in the a$$.

Until next time, keep the spring in your step.
