Nebraska and Sunday

Well Nebraska ended up being a good moving and Bruce Dern was as good as everyone says he was. Didn't finish Ender's Game so maybe some other day.
Got a lot accomplished today; Built the three new beds, did some repairs on the others, got the new herb bed located, transplanted the celery and planted peas (only two rows as after looking at everything we were wondering where everything else was going to go), repaired the tiller, then proceeded to get some more work done on the upstairs.

Busy week coming up and I'm tired. See you next time.

Waste

That pretty much sums our day here on hell's half acre. Rain, rain, more rain, then tornado threat this evening. Could have worked upstairs but just wasn't feeling it. Rented movies so it was a palooza of viewing today. Dallas Buyer's Club (intense but overall a good movie), American Hustle (Bale reminded me what a good actor he is), Last Days on Mars (One for me as I'm a space nuts; fair), Nebraska (watching now; slow pace and black and white) and Enders Game (another on for me.) Final report on the last two tomorrow.
Weather looks to be on the cool side tomorrow but sunny. Hope I can get the other beds built and plant the celery out.

What You See

Had a great time this past weekend with an old friend and his new companion. She was the nicest person in all ways and we all had fun pretty much goofing off and staying up way too late at night. So much so I was definitely late to work on Monday. So tired Sunday afternoon I took a nap that lasted longer than it should have. Then came time for bed and I proceeded to lay around, sleep maybe an hour, count the revolutions of the ceiling fan (wondering inside if I did install it correctly), nod off for another half hour, rinse and repeat. Still fun is what we had.
The crappy weather returned Sunday mid afternoon so most things I was planning to do were put on hold (this is where the nap came in.) I did get some more lumber to build the three new beds and have a half- ass layout for the added water lines needed. No work on the building so hopefully if the weather cooperates I should get it almost done this coming weekend. I also plan on building and setting those beds as well as getting and spreading mulch in the front and side of the house. I had asked The Wife to take some pictures for me as I didn't really get a chance to. This is what I got.

Wife's new herb garden bed. Gotta find a final location for it.

Wife's flowers.

Wife framed one of the seed packets from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds because, well she liked it.

More Wife's flowers.

Wife's front door masterpiece.

What do you see? I know what I see. I see images centered on an individual. But that's OK. Nice to have a different perspective.

WOF of the Week. Where else?

And one more for the road. Wait for it to load a few times and yes the bear was OK.

Until next time peace out :)

Friday Happenings

Sitting here at the kitchen table waiting for our guests to arrive. A nice balmy 63 outside at the moment. Been cruising through some blogs, catching up on what everyone is doing nowadays. Sad to hear that Granny at Annie's Kitchen Garden is having a hard time of it. I always enjoy reading what she is up to as she is a inspiration in the way she does things garden- wise. I have learned a lot of neat little tricks. And while I was there reading the comments I saw a person that I haven't visited blog- wise in a while. Ray over at Tennessee Country Living is also facing his own problems. Things like this is what you don't want to hear. It's awesome that people from all over the country, even the world, respond with well wishes and prayers. It seems bloggers look out for one another. I definitely am not considering myself one of the great bloggers by any stretch of the imagination, but I do enjoy it and hope others do to. My best wishes to both Carol (Grannie) and Ray, and if you have the time stop by their blogs and say hello.
I have busy lately, getting everything ready for "The Plant." That's my term for spending all day in the garden getting all of this crap in the ground. And all day it is but worth it in the end. I got all of the tomatoes transferred into the cups. *Blog Interruption- I started this post Friday afternoon but now finishing up Sunday morning; company came early :)* Peppers and eggplants are transferred too, and I was able to start cucumbers. Got to check on them this morning, and I need to check on some corn seedlings that I am testing the germination on.
Definitely needed transferred!

Moved and started the hardening- off process.

Well let me see what today holds and we'll talk later. :)

Comings and Goings

Well the Brother-in-Law and wife made it to their new home with his parents (Wife's too) in tow. I wasn't in town for their arrival but they are in all the same. And I didn't have to carry anything :) The in laws left yesterday on their trek back up north but I suspect that we'll see them permanently within three months. Mark my words.
Got a few things accomplished this past weekend, with help from Squeak, FiL, and BiL. Soffits and flashing are done as well as a door and window installed. I need to find a double door or I'll have to make one and install siding. Done. Well a ramp for the tractor and gutters for the door side. I plan on rain barrels at this end since it is next to the garden.

Spent yesterday (after sleeping in) cleaning the garage, removing the final rear brakes on the small car, transplanting all of my peppers and eggplants into bigger containers, and starting on the tomato transplanting. I am trying a mixture of Peat Moss, Compost and Perlite in my cups. Hope to do the remaining tomatoes tonight, or at least the ones we intend to keep.

I suspect planting time will be around April 5th, although we have a big PB game that weekend. If not then March 29th or April 12th.

Have a good week kids.

Spring?

I don't know but it was a nice weekend all the same. Spent a lot of time outdoors in yardly pursuits.
After a trip to the store I spent the afternoon of Saturday roofing the building. Getting closer all of the time. Even had Stalker Wife shoot some pictures of me. Weathered Wood is the shingle color and admittedly they are nicer than the ones on the house.

Didn't get to the soffits but I did knock another item off of my list; finished building my son's paintball marker box. It holds all of his stuff in one place. Not crazy about the latches though so those may get changed.

Today involved another trip to the store, actually returning a bundle of shingles I didn't use and picked up some flowers. Didn't get a picture of those. This afternoon was planting time; Red Pontiac, Russet, and Yukon Gold potatoes, Scarlet Nantes carrots, garlic, Red and Yellow onions. Not too many this time, bag each :)

For your eyes only.

Crazy, right? That's a lot of eyes.

Well I need to do some planning as we are going to add three more raised beds, so that means water lines need to be installed. Also running a line to the building so renting a ditch witch this time. No more digging long trenches for me. Working on that building about did me in.

WOF of the Week.

Enjoy it while it's here kids.

What's Going On????

Glad you asked. I know you didn't but you're here and it has been a while since we've seen each other.
I had a whole post laid out but deleted it for a nice bulleted list instead.

  • Birthday last Friday. Give a Shit meter lower still.
  • Brother In Law and his wife moving down next week from Dayton. Got to help them get set up.
  • Good friend coming in the following weekend for a quick stay.
  • Been leaving for out of town work last few Sundays. This makes for long weeks. Getting tired of hotel rooms but in the plus side I am a Diamond Elite member.
  • This weather lately just plain sucks.
Plants still going strong.

Looks to be a nice weekend so I am going to concentrate the roof and soffits.
